Developing and managing quality system documents can be a daunting task that eats a lot of manpower and takes resources away from production tasks and testing samples. While the TNI Standard has specific requirements to be met, SOPs need to be developed, reviewed and managed so as to add value to the operation and quality. SOPs need to be detailed and are primary tools for training and consistency. Reviewing and controlling SOPs is another daunting task. It takes thought, planning and yes, work too, but the long term returns can be in decreased operating costs, better service to clients and less effort spent on management.

This 2-hour interactive webcast focuses on the Standard's provisions and on ways to effectively write and review documents so they reflect the requirements and actual lab practice and are written for bench level use, NOT just for assessors. What needs to be in an SOP or a policy or a form or work instructions? How do you manage the morass of documents and changes? How do you assure that analysts are following the most recent documents and not something shoved in desk drawers months or years earlier? What tools are available to labs? Do electronic distribution and management really work?

This workshop is intended to be interactive. The presenter will focus on reviewing the Standard and on practical measures and questions that management needs to answer when developing or updating the documents. Tips on practical implementation techniques will also be discussed.

Jack Farrell has more than 40 years of experience in the environmental industry as an analyst, QA professional, technical and general manager of small, medium and large commercial laboratories. He is an experienced environmental manager, laboratory chemist, trainer, and auditor. Mr. Farrell holds degrees in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) and Chemistry and is a professional trainer, consultant and third party assessor for a number of state and federal regulators.

Jack Farrell is a Senior Environmental Analyst, President and Founder of Analytical Excellence, Inc. (AEX).
